Job Description
Summary: The Psychology Department at Grand Valley State University seeks a social psychologist to fill a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor position beginning August 6, 2025. The position is defined broadly within social psychology, however, candidates with expertise in prejudice, stereotyping, and intergroup relations are especially encouraged to apply as are those who will diversify or complement the existing department's research expertise. We seek candidates who are excited to work collaboratively with others, can involve undergraduates in their program of research, and have an interest in community-engaged scholarship or teaching.
Required Qualifications and Education: - A Ph.D. in Social Psychology.
- ABD candidates will be considered for a two-year contract with provision that the Ph.D. must be completed by December 2026.
- Demonstrated potential for successful college-level teaching in Social Psychology, Introductory Psychology, and Research Methods.
- Demonstrated potential for successful research.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Examples include experience with inclusive pedagogies; commitment to mentoring students from under-represented demographics in the sciences; research relating to marginalized populations or social inequality; and engagement with community-based social justice work.
Responsibilities: Duties each semester include a 9-credit hour teaching load, baseline scholarship, service, and advising, and a significant focus (equivalent to 3 credit hours) of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and/or service depending on the candidate's interests and the department's needs.
Minimum Starting Salary: $70,000; commensurate with experience

Department: The Psychology Department at Grand Valley State University represents a diverse and eclectic set of specialized interests within the discipline of psychology.
