The University of North Carolina School of the Arts trains talented students from high school to graduate school for professional careers in the performing, visual and film and television arts. Students are admitted by audition or interview to the schools of: Dance, Design & Production, Drama, Film making, and Music. The Division of Student Affairs serves the physical, social, and emotional needs of a highly diverse student body, ages 13+, in the areas of health, wellness, counseling, transportation, orientation, residence life/housing, activities, and student development.
Within the Division of Student Affairs, the Wellness Center has healthcare professionals, counselors, athletic trainers and physical therapists. The Center offers a comprehensive array of services designed to nurture every aspect of our students well-being-from physical health to mental resilience. Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals, counselors, dietitians, psychiatrists, and athletic trainers is committed to providing personalized care and guidance to help students thrive throughout their academic journey at UNCSA and beyond.
Primary Description of Work
This position is responsible for the overall strategic leadership and management of the health and wellness initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs, which is the central unit responsible for services and programs that support the comprehensive well-being of students, including but not limited to physical and emotional health and wellness. This individual must engage the following: Commit time, effort, and resources to ensuring and improving processes for creating and maintaining diverse and inclusive environments. Participate actively in various committee meetings, including divisional team meetings, student groups, and academic and other campus partners' planning sessions, as appropriate. Serve on and sometimes lead various committees that pertain to the delivery of quality health care and the promotion of health and wellness in the university community. Ensure the collaboration and delivery of health and wellness programs and services in partnership with the Student Affairs leadership team and other university leaders that focus on student success.
Work Schedule and hours
Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm with occasional weekends
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Medical Care: * Provide quality care to UNCSA students and develop protocols to serve high school, college, and graduate students in partnership with a contracted medical provider, currently Atrium Healthcare.
* Serve as a primary care provider at UNCSA Student Health Clinic. Evaluate, diagnose, and provide care for common illnesses and injuries.
* Evaluate, counsel, and provide ongoing care for patients.
* Utilize professional judgement in referring to support.
* Utilize professional judgment in ordering and evaluating lab and * x-rays.
* Incorporate holistic care (emotional and psychological support) into medical aspects of care.
Strategic Leadership: * Principle consultant and strategic thought partner with the Vice Provost of Student Affairs to address and meet the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of our students.
* Responsible for overall strategic leadership and management of the health and wellness initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs, which is the central unit responsible for services and programs that support the comprehensive well-being of students, including but not limited to physical and emotional health and wellness.
* Commit time, effort, and resources to ensuring and improving processes that focus on student-centric services for well-being.
* Actively participate in various committees and meetings, including divisional team members, the Student Support Team for High School and College, and other committees that pertain to the delivery of quality healthcare needs and promotion of the health and well-being of the campus community.
* Serves as the principal liaison and partner with a contracted medical provider, currently Atrium Healthcare.
* Ensure the collaboration and delivery of programs and services that meet the needs of the student body, in partnership with the Student Affairs leadership team and other campus leaders who focus on student success.
Supervision: * Responsible for the supervision of Director of Athletic Training, Clinical Director in Counseling Services, CMA, CNA, Health Educator and Fitness Center Manager to build collaboration around campus well-being, related programs, and initiatives.
* Serves as part of the Division of Student Affairs leadership team.
* Participates in various Student Affairs committees related to student development and health and wellness related topics.
Other Duties: * As assigned by the Vice Provost for Student Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a bachelor's degree (BSN) and completion of a graduate master's or doctoral program. The position requires expertise in professional nursing with sound knowledge of nursing theory and concepts, standards of care, the ability to understand and apply public health rules, the ability to interpret applicable laws, and demonstrate good judgment. Experience in a clinic, an emergency department, or a physician's office. Experience in management and demonstrated effective leadership skills. Certification by the ANA in College Health and 5-10 years experience in college health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Successful completion of the Nurse Practitioner program and licensing as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. If credentials exist outside of the state of North Carolina, the individual must be approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners and "approved to practice medical acts" by the Joint Subcommittee within 60 days of hire.
