Job Description

Sr. Founding Software Engineer - Hypergrowth Conversational AI Startup Location: San Francisco, CA (you can work from home 2x/week) The company has raised $6 million in seed funding and already has many paying customers. Revenues have been doubling every month. The company is comprised of 3 people including 2 engineers, and plans to hire 10 engineers in the next year. You would be reporting to the CTO/Cofounder, who was previously a machine learning tech lead and manager at Google. The company would love to hire someone for $150k in salary, but is open to pay as much as $300k for the right person. They are expecting to probably land in the $200-250k salary range. The equity granted would be inversely related to the salary given, but in any case they expect the equity could be very lucrative. Job Responsibilities:

• Designing and building highly scalable backend systems.
• The team is leaning towards using Go or Python on the backend, but they are open-minded and seek a language agnostic engineer who will help determine the best tech stack for the product and learn new technologies as needed.
• If you are interested in leadership, you could be leading 1-2 engineers in the next few months, and 5 engineers in the next year.
• Working at the cusp of what’s technically possible in applied AI.
• The low latency requirements of real-time speech means that the entire stack has to be lightning fast.
• Building AI bots to be rich, interactive, and lifelike.
• Designing and building scalable backend infrastructure to support our real-time communication platform.
• Designing, building, and maintaining a public API to be used by our partners.
• Designing and building integrations with 3rd party software such as CRMs, scheduling software, custom APIs, etc.
• Working closely with other backend engineers to improve our real-time communication platform.
• Leading and grow a team of more junior engineers.
• Working with the devops team to identify the best deployment and scaling strategies.
• Working with the front end engineers to support the user-facing web application.
• Working with the machine learning engineers to support custom ML features.

Qualifications:

• 5-10 years of professional software engineering experience in high caliber engineering organizations.
• Proficient in programming in either Python or Go
• Strong communication skills.
• Expertise in backend software architecture.
• Experience building integrations with 3rd party software.
• Microservices.
• SQL / Databases.

Nice to have:

• Experience building fast and scalable public APIs.
• Realtime communication / WebRTC / Websockets.
• Task queues.
• Django / FastAPI.
